How to Sign In to Hushmail

Sign in to Hushmail on the web, complete two-step verification, sign in from Outlook or Apple Mail with a security code, and fix failed sign-ins.

Hushmail's sign-in is a two-screen process: your full email address first, then your password. If you've turned on two-step verification, there's a code as well — and email programs handle that code differently from the website. Not a customer yet? See signing up for Hushmail.

Sign in on the web

  1. Go to secure.hushmail.com/mail.
  2. Enter your complete Hushmail email address and click Continue.
  3. Type your password and click Sign In. You'll go straight to your inbox.

With two-step verification

The first time you sign in on a device after turning on two-step verification, Hushmail asks for a verification code — sent by text message, by email to a backup address or through a smartphone app, depending on how you set it up. Entering it registers that device. Hushmail also gives you a backup verification code: keep it safe, because it gets you in if you can't receive codes by phone or backup email.

Signing in from Outlook, Apple Mail or a phone app

Email programs use your full Hushmail address as the username. Without two-step verification, the password is your normal Hushmail password. With two-step verification turned on, programs don't use the sign-in codes; instead:

  1. In Hushmail, open the menu in the upper-right corner → Preferences → Security.
  2. Scroll to the section about using a desktop or mobile email application. It shows your password followed by a 20-character security code.
  3. In the program's password field, type your Hushmail password, a space, then the 20-character code (including its spaces). Don't add a space at the end.

Some programs ask for the password separately for incoming and outgoing mail — enter it the same way in both. Servers and ports are in Hushmail server settings.

If you can't sign in

  • Check that Caps Lock is off — passwords are case-sensitive.
  • Make sure you entered your full email address, not just the part before the @.
  • If your browser saved the password, you may be able to look it up in the browser's saved passwords.
  • Use an up-to-date, supported browser — see Hushmail troubleshooting.

Forgotten the password? Read Hushmail password reset before anything else: for personal accounts, Hushmail can't reset it.
