Gmail is Google’s email service for personal accounts and Google Workspace. Use the guides below to sign in, recover an account, secure Gmail, troubleshoot sending or receiving problems, and configure IMAP, SMTP or POP. When connecting a third-party mail app, choose “Sign in with Google” whenever available; app passwords are only a fallback for eligible accounts with 2-Step Verification.

Yes. Personal Gmail accounts have IMAP access enabled automatically; Google removed the enable and disable control in January 2025. Use imap.gmail.com on port 993 with SSL/TLS. Google Workspace administrators may restrict IMAP for managed accounts.
Google no longer accepts ordinary account passwords in most third-party mail clients. Use “Sign in with Google” when the client supports it. If it does not, you may be able to create an app password after enabling 2-Step Verification.
Port 587 with STARTTLS is the usual choice. Port 465 with SSL/TLS also works if your client prefers implicit encryption.
