Fastmail Sign Up: How to Create a Fastmail Account
Sign up for Fastmail with a 30-day trial, choose the right plan — Individual, Duo, Family or Basic — and know the storage, custom-domain and trial limits before you pay.
Fastmail is a paid email service with no ads. Every new account starts with a 30-day trial, so you can try it before you choose a plan — there's no permanent free plan. The address you pick at sign-up becomes your username, so choose one you'll want to keep.
- Go to app.fastmail.com/signup (or select Try for free on fastmail.com).
- Choose your email address. This becomes your username — the only name you can log in with.
- Complete the sign-up form and start your 30-day trial.
Your subscription renews automatically on its due date using the saved payment method. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time, and payment changes are adjusted to your subscription's due date.
Choose a plan
| Plan | Users | Mail storage | Custom domain | Other email apps |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Individual | 1 | 50 GB | Yes | Yes |
| Duo | 2 | 50 GB each | Yes | Yes |
| Family | 3–6 | 50 GB each | Yes | Yes |
| Basic | 1 | 5 GB | No | No — web and Fastmail app only |
Individual, Duo and Family also include 10 GB of file storage per person and productivity features such as Snooze and Scheduled Send. Fastmail suggests Duo and Family when everyone needs similar features.
The Basic plan's catch: it doesn't include IMAP, SMTP, CalDAV or CardDAV, so you can't create app passwords or use Apple Mail, Outlook or Thunderbird with it — and downgrading to Basic later disables any app passwords you already have. If you want your mail in another app, choose Individual or above.
For a business: plans are priced per user and can be mixed in one account. Business Basic has 5 GB of mail; Business Standard has 50 GB plus custom domains and third-party apps; Business Professional has 100 GB and email retention.
Trial limits
- Trial accounts can send up to 120 messages a day. Upgrading lifts this to your plan's full limit — 8,000 messages a day on Individual, Duo and Family.
- Messages, including attachments, can be up to 70 MB in total; with email encoding, that means attachments of about 50 MB.
Bring your old mail with you
Go to Settings › Migration › Import and choose your provider — Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook.com or iCloud are listed, and others work over IMAP. Enter that account's address and password, then select Do it. Imports can take up to 24 hours, you can keep using Fastmail meanwhile, and you'll get an email summary when it's done. Don't restart an import that's still running, or every message will be duplicated. iCloud needs an app password.
First things to set up
- Recovery options under Settings › Privacy & Security › Account recovery — a recovery phone, a recovery email and your recovery code.
- Two-step verification, which Fastmail strongly encourages — see Fastmail security.
- The Fastmail app for iPhone and Android, or server settings for another email app.

Questions
Frequently asked questions

No. Fastmail is a paid service; every account starts with a 30-day trial, then you choose a plan.
Does the Fastmail Basic plan work with Outlook or Apple Mail?

How much storage does Fastmail give?
50 GB of mail per person on Individual, Duo and Family, plus 10 GB of files. Basic has 5 GB.
How many emails can I send on a Fastmail trial?
Up to 120 messages a day. Upgrading to a paid plan raises it — 8,000 a day on Individual, Duo and Family.
