Frontier Email Settings: POP3 & SMTP Servers
The POP3 and SMTP settings Frontier publishes for frontier.com email — and the Yahoo-based setup Frontier now recommends for phones and apps.
Quick answer
Frontier Mail server settings
- SMTP Outgoing SSL/TLS
-
smtp.frontier.comport 465
- POP3 Download SSL/TLS
-
pop3.frontier.comport 995
- Username
- Your full Frontier email address
- IMAP
- Not listed by Frontier
- Recommended for apps
- An OAuth-compliant app; on iPhone, add the account as Yahoo
Frontier email runs on Frontier Yahoo Mail, a service powered by Yahoo. That changes how apps connect. Frontier’s current advice is to use an email app that is OAuth compliant — one that signs you in through a web sign-in window — and its iPhone steps add your Frontier address as a Yahoo account. Start there; the server settings below are for apps that need them typed in.
The easy way: add it as Yahoo
- iPhone and iPad: Settings › add an account › Yahoo! › your full Frontier address and password. Full steps in Frontier Mail login.
- Other apps: if the app offers a Yahoo option or an OAuth sign-in window, use it with your full Frontier email address.
Server settings Frontier lists
| Server | Port | Security | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Incoming — POP3 | pop3.frontier.com | 995 | SSL |
| Outgoing — SMTP | smtp.frontier.com | 465 | SSL |
- Username: your full Frontier email address.
- Password: your email account password.
- Outgoing server authentication: required. In Outlook for Mac, Frontier sets it to Use Incoming Server Info.
Frontier’s settings page lists POP3 only for incoming mail — it doesn’t publish an IMAP server. If you want your mail and folders to match on every device, the Yahoo/OAuth route above is the one to use.
Which addresses this covers
Frontier Yahoo Mail includes addresses ending in @frontier.com, @frontiernet.net, @citilink.net, @epix.net, @gvni.com and @newnorth.net.
Example: Outlook for Mac (Frontier’s steps)
- Outlook menu › Preferences › Accounts, then + › E-Mail.
- Enter your full email address and password, and your full email address again as the User name.
- Choose POP. Incoming server
pop3.frontier.com, port 995, SSL on. Outgoing serversmtp.frontier.com, port 465, SSL on. - Click Add Account › More Options…, set Authentication to Use Incoming Server Info, then OK.
Remember what POP does
POP downloads mail to the device. If you also read Frontier email on the web or your phone, look in the app’s POP options for leaving a copy of messages on the server, so they don’t vanish from your other devices.
Still not connecting?
- Check the password by signing in at login.frontier.com/webmail. If that fails too, see resetting your Frontier email password.
- Re-add the account with the Yahoo option, or switch to an OAuth-capable app.
Get the settings filled in for your address with the Email Settings Finder.
