Verizon.net Email Settings: IMAP, POP & SMTP (AOL)
The IMAP, POP and SMTP settings AOL publishes for verizon.net addresses — and the app password or OAuth2 sign-in you need with them.
Quick answer
Verizon.net Email server settings
- IMAP Incoming SSL/TLS
-
imap.aol.comport 993
- SMTP Outgoing SSL/TLS
-
smtp.verizon.netport 465
- POP3 Download SSL/TLS
-
pop.verizon.netport 995
- Username
- Your full address, including @verizon.net
- Password
- An AOL app password, unless your app supports OAuth2
- Webmail
- mail.aol.com
verizon.net email is run by AOL now, and AOL publishes a separate set of settings for verizon.net addresses — slightly different from the ones for @aol.com. If you only read mail at mail.aol.com or in the AOL app, AOL says you don’t need to change anything. These are for Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird and other email apps.
Server settings
| Server | Port | Security | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Incoming — IMAP | imap.aol.com | 993 | SSL |
| Incoming — POP3 | pop.verizon.net | 995 | SSL |
| Outgoing — SMTP | smtp.verizon.net | 465 | SSL |
- Username: your full email address, including
@verizon.net. - Encryption: SSL on for both incoming and outgoing mail.
- Password: see below — your normal password usually won’t work.
Note the mix: IMAP uses AOL’s server, while POP and SMTP use verizon.net names. That’s exactly how AOL lists them.
OAuth2 or an app password
AOL says that to use a third-party email app, the app must either support OAuth2 (it opens AOL’s sign-in page for you) or you must create an app password and enter it with the settings above. App passwords are made on your AOL Account Security page — steps in AOL Mail security.
IMAP or POP?
- IMAP keeps the app and your mailbox at mail.aol.com identical — read, delete or file a message in one place and it changes everywhere.
- POP downloads a copy to the app, and only from the Inbox, not your other folders. Deleting a message online doesn’t remove the downloaded copy.
AOL warns that switching between IMAP and POP can lose mail, so back up your email before you change an existing account’s setup.
Have an @aol.com address too?
@aol.com addresses use imap.aol.com, pop.aol.com and smtp.aol.com instead — see AOL Mail settings.
verizon.net on Yahoo?
If your verizon.net address moved to Yahoo rather than AOL, these AOL settings don’t apply — follow Yahoo’s settings in Yahoo Mail settings and Yahoo’s help for Verizon Yahoo Mail.
Still not connecting?
- Check you can sign in at mail.aol.com with the full verizon.net address — see Verizon email login.
- Create a fresh app password and enter it again.
- For questions about the app itself, AOL says to check with the app’s maker — they can’t answer questions about your verizon.net username or password.
Or fill these in automatically with the Email Settings Finder.
