Email providers

Pick your provider for its full set of guides — login help, server settings, security, and account recovery.

Every provider below has the same shelf of guides written for it, so you are not reading advice meant for a different service: how to sign in and what to do when that fails, how to get back into an account whose password is gone, the IMAP, POP and SMTP settings its mail servers expect, and how to lock the account down.

Not sure which one

Work out who really runs your mailbox

A work address or your own domain rarely says who is behind it: you@yourcompany.com could be Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or something your host runs. The finder reads the domain’s mail servers and tells you which service to follow.

The same shelf, every provider

What each provider hub holds

01

Signing in

The real sign-in address, what the provider asks for, and the usual reasons a correct password is still refused.

02

Getting back in

Password resets and account recovery — including where recovery genuinely is not possible, which we say rather than imply otherwise.

03

Server settings

IMAP, POP and SMTP hostnames, ports and encryption, plus whether the provider needs an app password instead of your normal one.

04

Security and fixes

Two-factor setup, spotting fakes sent in that provider’s name, and what to check when mail stops sending or arriving.

Questions

Finding your provider

I do not know which provider my email is on.
Look at what comes after the “@” in your address. Addresses ending in gmail.com, outlook.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com or icloud.com belong to the big consumer providers. For a work address or your own domain, the Email Settings Finder looks up the domain’s mail servers and tells you which service is actually behind it.
My internet provider’s email looks completely different now.
Several internet providers no longer run their own mail service and have handed their customers’ mailboxes to another company, which is why the webmail screen and the server settings change while the address stays the same. The internet provider email guide explains where these addresses live now and which settings to use.
What is in each provider’s hub?
The same set of guides, written for that provider: signing in, creating an account, resetting a forgotten password, the IMAP, POP and SMTP server settings, securing the account, and what to do when mail stops arriving or sending.
My provider is not listed here.
The Email Settings Finder covers far more domains than there are provider hubs, so start there for server settings. If you would like a full set of guides for a provider we have not covered yet, send us the name through the contact page.
