How to Schedule an Email in Gmail

Schedule an email to send later in Gmail on a computer, Android or iPhone — and change or cancel it. Google’s steps, the 100-email limit and the time-zone rule.

Gmail can send an email later for you — tomorrow morning, after a meeting, or in someone else’s working hours. Here’s how on a computer, Android and iPhone, plus how to change or cancel a scheduled email.

Schedule an email on a computer

  1. Write your email as usual.
  2. At the bottom left, next to Send, click the Down arrow.
  3. Click Schedule send and choose a time.

On Android

  1. Open the Gmail app and tap Compose.
  2. Write your email.
  3. At the top right, tap More.
  4. Tap Schedule send and select an option.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Gmail, tap Compose and write your email.
  2. At the top right, tap More.
  3. Tap Schedule send and choose a time.

Change or cancel a scheduled email

To change a scheduled email, you cancel it, which turns it back into a draft, make your changes, and schedule it again.

On a computer

  1. In the left panel, click Scheduled.
  2. Open the email and click Cancel send. It becomes a draft.
  3. Make your changes, then click the Down arrow next to Send → Schedule send and pick a new time.

In the Gmail app

  1. Tap Menu, then Scheduled.
  2. Select the email and tap Cancel send, then tap the email again.
  3. Make your edits, tap More → Schedule send and choose an option.

To cancel without rescheduling, stop after Cancel send — Google says a cancelled email becomes a draft.

Good to know

  • Up to 100 scheduled emails at a time.
  • Time zones: emails are sent based on the time zone you schedule them in — worth remembering if you travel before the send time.
  • A few minutes late is normal: Google notes scheduled emails may be sent a few minutes after the scheduled time.

If the recipient says it never arrived

For a message that seems delayed, Google suggests these checks:

  • Look in your Sent and Drafts folders — a cancelled scheduled email waits in Drafts.
  • Ask the recipient to check their Junk or Spam folder.
  • Wait a few hours in case a delivery error comes back to you.
  • Make sure your internet connection is stable.
