Windstream Email Settings: IMAP & SMTP

Many email apps set up Windstream.net email automatically once you enter your address and password. If yours doesn’t, these are the settings Kinetic publishes.

Server settings

• Username: your full email address.
• Password: your email password.
• Kinetic recommends the SSL ports (993 and 465), saying they help prevent spam and protect your security.

Use IMAP — on every device

Kinetic recommends IMAP, especially when more than one device checks the same address: messages stay on the server, so deletions and new folders show up everywhere. POP downloads mail to one device and removes it from the server, which is why mail can seem to vanish when you check from somewhere else. Kinetic also warns that if you use IMAP on your iPhone, every computer must use IMAP too, or the account can hit a “POP lock”.

iPhone or iPad

1. Settings › the mail accounts section › Add Account › Other › Add Mail Account.
2. Enter your name, email address, password and a description.
3. Choose IMAP, then enter imap.windstream.net and smtp.windstream.net with your full email address and password.
4. Wait for “Verifying IMAP account information”, accept any prompt, then open Mail.

Android

1. Open the Email app, tap Add Account, and enter your Windstream.net address and password.
2. Choose IMAP. Incoming: imap.windstream.net, port 993, SSL. Outgoing: smtp.windstream.net, port 465, SSL.
3. Pick your account options, name the account and tap Done.

Windows Mail

Kinetic’s Windows 10 steps: open Mail › Settings › Accounts › Add Account › Other Account, then enter your full @windstream.net address, name and password and click Sign-in.

Mail disappearing between devices?

Kinetic says that’s the classic sign of POP: one device downloads the messages and removes them from the server, so your phone or Webmail no longer sees them. Switch every app to IMAP with the settings above — check each app’s account type, because one POP device is enough to cause it.

Limits

• Attachments: 25 MB in total per message.
• Trash empties after 60 days and unread Inbox mail is deleted after 365 days — IMAP apps will show the same.
