How to Reset Your Windstream Email Password

Windstream.net email passwords are managed through Kinetic, Windstream’s home service. Kinetic gives two ways to reset or change one — through your Kinetic account, or straight from the Windstream.net site.

Option 1: through your Kinetic account

1. Sign in at my.gokinetic.com.
2. Click View and Manage Email.
3. Choose Forgot Your Password or Need to Reset It? or Email Identity Dashboard.
4. Follow the prompts to create a new password.

Option 2: from Windstream.net

1. Go to www.windstream.net.
2. Click Email at the top right of the menu bar.
3. Follow the prompts to reset your password.

Want a different address instead?

Kinetic’s help article on changing your email “username or password” only gives steps for the password — it doesn’t describe renaming an existing address. Kinetic’s Email 101 help does have a separate article on adding another email address to your account.

Account gone inactive?

A reset won’t help if the account itself is inactive. Kinetic moves accounts to inactive status after 180 days with no Webmail, POP or IMAP activity, and you can’t reach them on your own. To restore access, chat with Go Kinetic support through the my.gokinetic.com portal. Kinetic’s help pages don’t say what happens to the mail in an inactive account, so don’t count on it still being there — sign in regularly.

Choosing the new password

Kinetic’s help pages don’t publish password rules, so the reset screen will tell you if yours is too weak. Make it long, unique to this account and stored in a password manager — email passwords that are reused elsewhere are the ones that get stolen.

After you reset

• Update every email app. Phones and Outlook sign in with your email password and keep failing until you enter the new one. The settings are in Windstream email settings.
• Sign in to Webmail at webmail.windstream.net to confirm it works — see Windstream email login.
• Don’t reset because an email told you to. If a message says your Windstream account will be closed unless you “verify” your password, it’s phishing. Kinetic asks you to report fraudulent email within 24 hours using the Spam button in Webmail or your app’s junk button.

Getting help safely

Search results for Windstream email are full of look-alike “support” pages with phone numbers that aren’t Kinetic’s. Start from gokinetic.com/support or the my.gokinetic.com portal, and never give your password or a code to someone who contacted you. The email security hub explains the common tricks.
