How to Reset Your AT&T Mail Password

Your AT&T Mail password is your AT&T ID password. Reset it if you’ve forgotten it, change it if you haven’t, and keep your email apps working.

AT&T Mail and your AT&T account share one password. AT&T’s words: the password you use to sign in to your email and AT&T are the same, so changing one changes the other. That applies to att.net, sbcglobal.net, bellsouth.net and AT&T’s other email addresses — and if you check email at currently.com, you still manage the password on att.com.

Before you reset

If you changed your AT&T ID password recently, try that one — it’s also your email password.

Forgot your password

  1. Open AT&T’s forgot password page (linked from the AT&T help article below).
  2. Enter your AT&T ID and the last name linked to it.
  3. Choose a verification method and follow the prompts.
  4. Enter and confirm your new password.

Know your password and want to change it

  1. Go to your AT&T account profile and sign in.
  2. Select Edit next to Password.
  3. Enter and save the new password.

AT&T recommends changing your password regularly, and adding a mobile number to your account so resets are easier next time.

What happens to your email apps

  • Apps using a secure mail key — the 16-character code many email apps need — keep working. AT&T says changing your password doesn’t require a new key.
  • Apps that sign in with OAuth use your normal password, so sign in again there with the new one.
  • Account locked or blocked? AT&T deletes your secure mail keys for safety. After you’re back in, create new keys — see AT&T Mail settings and secure mail keys.

Choosing the new password

  • Make it long and unique — don’t reuse a password from another site, because your email can reset the passwords of almost everything else you use.
  • Store it in a password manager rather than a note on your computer.
  • Remember it now signs you in to both your AT&T account and AT&T Mail on the web.

If you think someone else got in

Reset your password straight away, then check your email apps and create fresh secure mail keys if your account was locked. Be wary of anyone who calls or emails offering to “fix” your AT&T email: never give them your password, a security code or a secure mail key, and don’t let them control your computer. The email security hub explains how to spot these scams.
