How to Reset Your Optimum Email Password (Optimum ID)

Reset or change the Optimum ID password that signs you in to Optimum email — and what to do about locked IDs and forgotten security answers.

Optimum email signs in with your Optimum ID, so resetting your email password usually means resetting your Optimum ID password.

Reset a forgotten password

If you’ve forgotten your password — or you tried to sign in and were told your ID is locked — go to optimum.net/reset-password and follow the on-screen instructions. You can also select Forgot password on the sign-in screen.

Optimum notes an ID can be locked when abnormal activity is detected on the account. If that’s why you’re resetting, choose a password you haven’t used anywhere else.

Can’t answer your security questions?

Optimum uses security questions to help verify you. If you’re stuck:

  • Look for Try a Different Question, which appears after a wrong answer.
  • If your ID has an alternate email address or mobile number, Optimum can send you a temporary password.
  • Trouble with a secondary ID? Sign in with the primary Optimum ID — it can update the security questions for all other IDs on the account.

Once you’re back in, update your questions from your profile with Update security questions.

Change a password you know

  1. Go to My Profile and sign in with your Optimum ID and password.
  2. Under Security, click Change password.

Optimum recommends updating your password regularly.

The sign-in code

Since October 6, 2026, signing in also needs a verification code by text or phone call (or a passkey). A new password doesn’t change that. If the code goes to an old number, use Update your number on the sign-in screen. Details in Optimum email login.

After you reset

  • Update every device. Optimum says that after changing the password for your email address or Optimum ID, you must update it on every phone, tablet or email program that collects your mail. Settings: Optimum email settings.
  • Never share codes. Optimum will never ask for your password or verification code through someone who contacts you.

Unexpected “reset your password” email? Don’t click — go to optimum.net yourself. The email security hub explains how to check a suspicious message.
