How to Reset Your Spectrum Email Password

Reset or change your Spectrum password — and recover a forgotten username — with Spectrum’s verification-code steps.

Spectrum’s help for “Change your email password” now leads to its article on managing your Spectrum username and password. These are Spectrum’s steps for resetting a forgotten password, recovering a username and changing a password you know.

Reset a forgotten password

  1. Select Sign in on Spectrum.net.
  2. Select Forgot Username or Password? (below the Sign In button).
  3. Confirm your account using your username and ZIP code, phone number, email address or account info.
  4. Choose how to get a verification code: text message, email or phone call.
  5. Enter the code on the next screen.
  6. If you confirmed with your username and ZIP code, you go straight to the password reset. With any other method, Spectrum shows your username first, then lets you reset the password.

Forgot your username?

Use the same Forgot Username or Password? steps. Once your identity is verified with the code, your username is displayed on screen. Spectrum usernames can’t be changed after they’re created — to get a different one, you’d create a new profile.

Change a password you know

  1. Sign in to your Spectrum account.
  2. Select More, then Settings.
  3. Select the Sign in & Security tab and verify your identity.
  4. Select Password, enter and confirm the new one, then select Save.

Spectrum adds that only the Primary account holder can update certain sign-in and security details. If you’re an additional user on someone else’s account and can’t change something, ask them.

Choose a strong password

Spectrum’s advice: use uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters, and avoid easy-to-guess information like names, birthdays or common words. Don’t reuse a password from another site.

After you reset

  • Update every email app. Phones and Outlook keep using the old password until you change it there. Server details: Spectrum email settings.
  • Check your mail on the web — see Spectrum email login.
  • Got a reset email you didn’t ask for? Don’t click it; go to Spectrum.net yourself. The email security hub shows how to check a suspicious message.

Never give a verification code to anyone who calls or messages you — a real support agent doesn’t need it.
