How to Reset or Change Your Yandex Mail Password

Recover a forgotten Yandex ID password with your security question, phone or backup email, change a password you know, and avoid fake reset messages.

Your Yandex Mail password is your Yandex ID password, so resetting it changes how you sign in to every Yandex service. How easily you get back in depends on the recovery methods you set up in advance.

If you've forgotten the password

  1. Open the password recovery page at passport.yandex.com/restoration.
  2. Enter your username.
  3. Confirm it's you with one of the recovery methods on the account: your phone number, an alternate email address, or the answer to your security question.
  4. Choose a new password and sign in.

Recovery details out of date? If you can no longer use the phone, alternate email or security answer, fill in Yandex's Restore Access form at passport.yandex.com/restoration/form. Forgotten your username? Try passport.yandex.com/restoration/login, and contact Yandex support if that doesn't work. Before any of this, check whether your browser or phone has the password saved.

Change a password you know

  1. Go to the Yandex ID Security page at id.yandex.com/security.
  2. Under Login methods, click Update password.

When you change the password, Yandex automatically ends all sessions under your username on other computers — useful if you think someone else has been in your account.

Email apps after a password change

Email programs should be signed in through Yandex's OAuth window or with an app password, never with your main password. If a program starts asking for a password again and again, Yandex suggests entering the current credentials in the program, waiting a few hours for them to sync, and signing in on the Yandex Mail website again — you may be shown a captcha. App passwords are explained in Yandex Mail security.

Watch out for fake "reset your password" emails

Yandex says it will never send an email asking you to follow a link and enter personal data. Hover over any link before clicking: a real Yandex address has a slash right after yandex.com, not a dot. If you did type your password into a fake page, scan your computer for viruses first, then change your password, link a phone number and change your security question and answer.
