How to Reset Your CenturyLink Email Password
Reset your CenturyLink email password with a code to your phone or backup email — and what to do when the account has been locked.
CenturyLink lets you reset your own email password — if you’ve set up a recovery method: a phone number or another email address. Without one, you’ll need CenturyLink’s email support team.
Reset with a recovery method
- Go to the CenturyLink.net sign-in page.
- Click Forgot Password.
- Confirm your CenturyLink email address.
- Choose where to get a verification code — your phone or your other email address, whichever you set up.
- Enter the code on the recovery page.
- Create your new password.
No recovery method set up
CenturyLink’s route is to chat with its email support team. Have your CenturyLink account number ready — they use it to verify you. Check CenturyLink’s help page (linked below) for the chat link and current hours; this site never lists support phone numbers.
“Your compose and send feature has been disabled”
This message means CenturyLink locked your account because of suspicious activity. According to CenturyLink, the most common cause is someone else using the account to send mass spam. Recover access with the steps above, then:
- Choose a new password you’ve never used anywhere else.
- Check your other accounts that use the same password, and change those too.
- Make sure a recovery phone or email is on the account, so you can get back in yourself next time.
Don’t fall for “account locked” emails
Scammers send emails claiming your CenturyLink account is locked and asking you to confirm your password. CenturyLink says it never asks for personal information by email. Don’t reply and don’t click — go to the CenturyLink.net sign-in page yourself. Not sure about a message? The email security hub shows how to check it.
Make the next reset easy
When you sign in without a recovery method, CenturyLink shows a pop-up asking you to add a phone number or another email address. Add one even if you’re in a hurry — it’s the difference between resetting your password in two minutes and waiting for a support chat.
After you reset
- Update your email apps. Outlook, Apple Mail or your phone will keep asking for the old password until you change it there — and check the current server settings while you’re at it.
- Sign in at least once a year, or CenturyLink deactivates the account and deletes its contents.
