How to Add Another Email Account on Android (Gmail App)

Add Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud and other email accounts to the Gmail app on Android — automatic and manual IMAP setup, security warnings, and what Gmail's 2027 changes mean.

On Android, the simplest way to read several email accounts in one place is the Gmail app — it isn't just for Gmail. You can add Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud, work and other accounts to it, up to five addresses alongside your Google account, and see them separately or together in All inboxes.

Add Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud or another Gmail account

  1. Open the Gmail app.
  2. Tap your profile picture at the top right, in the search bar.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose Google for another Gmail address, or your provider from the list — such as Outlook, iCloud Mail or Yahoo.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps to sign in.

If your account uses two-step verification, you'll be asked to confirm it's you. Some providers require an app password instead of your normal one to finish — create it in the provider's account security settings.

Add any other account (manual IMAP setup)

  1. Follow steps 1–3 above and choose Other.
  2. Enter your full email address and tap Next.
  3. Select Personal (IMAP).
  4. Enter your password and tap Next.
  5. Enter the incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) server settings, then follow the remaining steps.

Server settings for common providers

ProviderIncoming (IMAP)Outgoing (SMTP)Password to use
Gmailimap.gmail.com · 993 · SSL/TLSsmtp.gmail.com · 587 · STARTTLSSign in with Google; app password as a fallback
Outlook.com, Hotmailoutlook.office365.com · 993 · SSL/TLSsmtp-mail.outlook.com · 587 · STARTTLSMicrosoft sign-in
Yahoo Mailimap.mail.yahoo.com · 993 · SSL/TLSsmtp.mail.yahoo.com · 465 · SSL/TLSApp password
iCloud Mailimap.mail.me.com · 993 · SSL/TLSsmtp.mail.me.com · 587 · STARTTLSApp-specific password
AOL Mailimap.aol.com · 993 · SSL/TLSsmtp.aol.com · 465 · SSL/TLSApp password
Zoho Mailimap.zoho.com · 993 · SSL/TLSsmtp.zoho.com · 465 · SSL/TLSAccount or app-specific password

For any other address — including work and custom domains — the Email Settings Finder looks up the settings from the domain itself.

If you see a security warning

  • “Email security not guaranteed”: the app couldn't make an encrypted connection with the settings entered. Google lets you continue by setting Security type to None, but then your password and messages can be read by anyone on the network. Don't — instead, correct the port and encryption (993 with SSL/TLS for IMAP).
  • “Certificate not trusted”: the server's certificate didn't check out. Double-check the server name; if it's right, report it to your email provider rather than continuing.

Changes coming to Gmail in January 2027

Google is removing three features for non-Google addresses from Gmail: Gmailify, POP fetching (Gmail collecting mail from another account on the web, often set up as “Check mail from other accounts”), and “Send mail as” with a third-party address. Gmail may restrict new setups of these during the second half of 2026, and they're fully removed in January 2027.

Adding accounts to the Gmail mobile app, as described on this page, is not affected: Google says you can keep adding and using non-Google accounts in the app as you do today. If you relied on Gmail on the web to read another account, set that account up in the app instead, in a desktop email program over IMAP, or have your provider forward its mail to Gmail.

Switch, combine or remove accounts

  • See everything together: tap the Menu, then All inboxes.
  • Remove an account: tap your profile picture, then Manage accounts on this device, select the account and tap Remove. Mail on an IMAP server stays there.

If an account was added but nothing sends or arrives, check the provider's settings page in the table above, and SMTP ports explained for port and encryption errors.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a non-Gmail account to the Gmail app?

Yes. Tap your profile picture › Add another account and choose Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud or Other. You can add up to five addresses.

Is Gmail removing support for other email accounts?

Gmail on the web is removing Gmailify, POP fetching and third-party 'Send mail as' in January 2027. Adding other accounts to the Gmail mobile app is not affected.

What does 'Email security not guaranteed' mean?

The app couldn't connect securely with the settings you entered. Fix the port and encryption (993 with SSL/TLS for IMAP) instead of choosing Security type None.

Should I use IMAP or POP on Android?

IMAP. The Gmail app's manual setup uses Personal (IMAP), which keeps mail in sync with your other devices.
